Pita only received 10% of the vote for PM to win the vote. Not a majority. There are so many political parties in Thailand. Also, he knew his media company ownership was in violation of the law, but was hoping no one would find out? Sure, he inherited the shares, but how you gained ownership of the company is not the issue. He is a Harvard educated lawyer. He didn't know the law? He didn't know he had ownership of  media company? He felt he is above the law?

Also, there are 750 Senators and MP's in Thailand. Let's put that in perspective. Land mass 515,120 km. Population 69,648.

Compared to the US...Senators and congresspersons 535. Land mass 9,833,520 km. Population 333,287,557

Compared to population, Thailand has about 500% more Senators and MP's as compared to the USA. This is not to say the USA is better or smarter, but it does say that those 750 Senators and MP's are a drain on Thailand's limited financial resources. So, Pita is correct in a way, there are too many Senators. I see also, there are too many MP's.

what's the point of an election if you don't listen to the electorate's decision ? almost what you might call a dictatorship.

Of course, in this case it's a dictatorship involving unelected senators.

The point of the elections is to demonstrate to the international community that Thailand is pro-democracy so that it can attract foreign investment from like minded regimes. The international community don’t view the manipulation of the election outcomes as significant enough to warrant sanctions. So life goes on. It also creates an illusion to the undiscerning that the government in Thailand is a long way removed from their neighbouring dictatorships.

You are so wrong on the media issue. The company ceased to exist many years ago, and there was no way of getting rid of these useless shares legally.

which we all know in reality they are but a stone's throw from being via their military coups and ignoring of public voting.

Dictatorship and old guard senator go hand in glove it seems. We will give you the vote then you will do as we say would sum them up at the present.
