Connecticut(New Haven) Pizza Tour

Recommended Posts

People think NYC has the best pizza in US(meaning the world)

But it really is Connecticut

New Haven specifically

One street, Wooster St, has 4 of the best pizza places in all of the US(world) on one street

So instead of flying from NYC to Boston I rented a car and drove and stopped and did a mini pizza tour

Went to 2 places in New Haven and one in Meriden Connecticut

All these places are around 100+ years and use coal fire ovens, which are no longer allowed to be built

Sally's Apizza

This is always rated the best in New Haven

I was frustrated because I ordered twice on Uber Eats(Grab) to pick up and both times they canceled my order 15mins before I was going to pick it up

So I thought I wasn't going to be able to get Sally's

But many people get pizzas and eat them around the neighborhood outside

I had my Pepe's (next post) and these guys were eating Sally's so I asked them if they wanted to try Pepe's

So we shared

It was the best of the day

Frank Pepe's

This is the most famous

I didn't plan on getting it but when Sally's canceled my orders, this is the easiest to walk in and order

It's a good pizza but nothing out of this world

They gave me the wrong pie and so when I went back I think they gave me one that was laying around

But it was honestly just great watching the guy work and reload the coal oven

The Little Rendezvous

This is about 25mins from New Haven

It is 120+ years old and I was excited to go here

The original building structure is worth it alone

I thought I would love the pizza and I really liked it but I wasn't blown away

It was very distinct

It was also piping hot and I think that sort of took away from the taste

I didn't love the crackery crust

Going to try leftover today if I like it better

Still an amazing place

I love a pizza place. For me, best one was in Koh Kong, Cambodia, near the Thailand border. Wood fire oven, chef studied in Trat. I searched Trat after, but no good pizza 🤣

Wood fire pizzas are usually Neopolitan pizza

Which is what you usually find in Asia

I don't mind them, but not my favorite..............

But I have had some good ones in Thailand

The best pizza I ever had in Asia was Secret Pizza in Luang Prabang, Laos

An Italian married a Laos girl and they have a pizza oven in their back yard in a rice village outside of town

It only opens a couple nights per week and it was fantastic

GO!

Luang Prabang is my favorite city in all of South East Asia

I absolutely loved it.

It is just so charming and laid back, people are so gentle and still has a lot of French influence so beautiful architecutre, bakeries, restaurants
