News Forum - Phuket child prostitution scandal: Entertainment venues lose 100 million baht
The problem with AoC laws, is that it operates on the basis, that one size fits all. I take your point about village girls, but I do think that a sexually active 13 year old is at far greater risk from a predatory sex tourist, than she is from some sleaze , who is likely to get her pregnant and abandon her. If someone's tastes are for 13 year olds, she will soon be past her sell by date, and possibly pregnant too. For those who enjoy the fruits of the cradle, rapid abandonment is what these girls face, no matter what promises he has made. -

News Forum - Thai officials seek to promote Muslim-friendly tourism
But it is a Muslim island, so why would you expect accomodations just because you are a tourist? If they don't eat pork, I don't expect them to serve just because I am a tourist -

News Forum - Phuket child prostitution scandal: Entertainment venues lose 100 million baht
If I remember right, the legal consent age is 15, in Thailand. The "effective" age of consent is 18. But as long the parents are ok with the rich old Farang, who likes the 15/16 years old girl, no one, usually, interrupts the flow. -

News Forum - Can the BBC ever recover from their latest humiliation?
I presume your first paragraph is directed at me. Rather clumsy as I have not really adopted the "free speech mantra", and when I have told someone they are wrong, I have backed it with facts, but don't let those get in the way of such facile post. You really just don't get it do you? Did you not learn anything from the Pastor Niemoller text? It's a about the defence of human rights. Hopefully you will never fall foul of such behaviour, but if you do, you will only be too happy to have the likes of myself and other like minded people defending you. "The real strength of a democracy is not measured by it's majority, but by the way we treat the people we care least for". Sir John Mortimer 1923-2009.
