This is a tragic accident that could have been avoided had the area been properly lit. I see this sort of situation in many places, and really the authorities need to look into these issues.

The area has apparently had multiple accidents due to the poor lighting, so it is critical that such accident spots be recorded and properly investigated as to the cause, and if it is found that there are lighting or road surface issues that contribute to the accidents, they MUST be fixed.

That may be a contributing factor, but consider how much safer roads would be if people drove/rode for the actual conditions instead of trusting to Lord Buddha to keep them safe. Perhaps it is time to pull unlicensed riders off the roads until such time as they ARE properly licensed and have undergone a defensive driving course (yeah, right - a bridge too far at this time).

Even if pitch black, two motorcycles with operating lights don't collide.

A poorly lit road is a pathetic excuse.

Only in Thailand would someone risk their life by not spending 20-50 baht on a tail light or headlight.

Not just Samut Sakon -- Nearly 90% of Soi in every Province.  Have some 20 lights in our Soi - 2 work.

The local Amphoe has lovely Solar lights every 50 metres (both sides of the road) in surrounding Sois.
