Gordon Lightfoot

May 2nd, 2023 - Gordon Lightfoot just passed away aged 84. Absolute legend and a great Canadian, up there with Gretzky, Dan Aykroyd, Neil Young, William Shatner and Tim Horton 🇨🇦🍁

Perhaps nobody will read this, hidden away here on a music thread, but I wanted to post a tribute. Great singer songwriter and a rare musical genius. R.I.P.

Hey, leave a spot on that list, I will have my Canadian passport in a few years 555

You posted already, but one of my favorite songs ever

I I think Tim Horton would be #1 Canadian

It is in most's daily lives!

I relistened to ‘If you could read my mind’ and ‘the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’ and thought to myself, well I should post ‘Sundown’ as well. Refreshed and well… you beat me to it 😁

Well I have had my Tim Horton's this morning so on the ball!

PS....That's a lie, I don't drink coffee but my wife likes their Ice Caps

I think you need to add Gord Downie of the Hip to the list of great Canadians.

RIP Mr Lightfoot; you gave us decades of great music. Thank you.

One of my favourite albums. A sad loss of one of the great songwriters.

I was living in Denmark, working at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, when 'Edmund Fitzgerald' was released.

Where was everyone else, at that time?

August 1976? I was in Wallasey pooping in diapers. Need a more recent song for more interesting activities 😂😂😂

My favourite Gordon Lightfoot song is 'in the early morning rain' and I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned it, I don't think so anyway. Released in 1966 and I was 1 year into a mechanical apprenticeship.

Sorry about Rolf Harris.

Sorry about Rolf Harris.

I was worried Rolf would pull out his wobble board and join Gordon in the latter part of that tune ME, but luckily we were spared 😁

Doing a deep dive into the Gordon Lightfoot catalogue, I’d go for the Canadian Railroad Trilogy as a personal favorite in addition to the canon classics.

I grew up with 2 older brothers constantly playing his albums until I got hooked too. A great easy going song writer/singer I miss but thankfully still have many of his cd's to listen to with a cold beer .
