Don’t think it is fragile in this instance. Certainly hits a sour taste in most people’s mouths with Cambodia pulling this crap. If it was originally called Kun Khmer and always seen as a Cambodian thing then ok, but it never was and never should be.

Cultures belong to culture areas. Thailand and Cambodia share a culture area. It's no big deal who came up with it first, because with such a long and interwoven history, it's historically irrelevant
