It is normal in every country these illegal immigrants will work during wee hours in the morning. It is very easy to catch them in areas like wet and dry wholesale markets. These people are basically like nocturnal beings and they work when everyone is in deep sleep and will go back to their hiding places when everyone is awake....

Everyday big headlines on illegal foreign workers and overstayers being arrested, crack downs, etc... it seems quite a lot more than usual for the last few months. Is there any elections coming soon?

To me, it looks more like this should lead the manila envelopes in the right ways!

There is nothing new, unregistered workers are the backbone of some businesses.

What I am always wondering (na, not really ;-), no one is mentioning fines for the employing businesses. Or name and shame them. But that is part of my theorie with the manila`s.

Interesting is this: "The police managed to catch 30 of the workers, out of which 23 were found to have valid work permits." The 23 runner WITH wp are distraction, methinks? And they run the ways, the police can easier catch them? How many got away?

just: If RTP/IP would mean it, they would just follow to the accomodations of ALL this people!

And catch many more.

It is all about money and statistics. Not about people working jobs, mostly Thais don`t wanna do, anyway!

I'm very rural and have been trying to get someone to remove a twenty-foot-high tree for 3 months now. Thais NOT interested.

They get the tree they cut down and can sell the timber to the coke makers plus 1000 baht. Probably 3 hours work.

Wife approached the local Khmer camp and it was down and gone in 2 hours for 500 baht.

Not sure this coincides with elections. Thai are pretty smart that they need slaves, even if illegal working ones.
