Pick a side Thailand. Western democracies which let you run your own affairs or Chinese overlords who will turn you into a province. 

Just ask Laos and Cambodia how that worked out.

I'll say it again.  These Chinese are not friends of Thais or Thailand.

The government and tourism officials are being blinded by the short baht, and not seeing the long term consequences of their never-ending position of bending over and grabbing their ankles every time Chinese tourism is mentioned.
