I thought Russians and Belarusians were famously good mates?  Clearly not, but who cares.  So long as they rip each other off, I for one am happy.

Crypto has to be stored somewhere - either cold storage (USB drive etc) or online at a crypto exchange. So steal the storage medium or the user details for the exchange.

True - but without the password for the wallet, it is useless. And USB drives and other external medium can be encrypted and protected very easily.
