News Forum - Covid-19 screening not necessary for China arrivals

Recommended Posts

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) met on Saturday to assess the Covid-19 situation in China and the border reopening on January 8. Covid-19 screening test for arrivals from China might not be necessary for the time being although vaccination documents will be checked Tares Krassanairawiwong, DDC director-general, said nearly five million visitors from China are expected this year while travel to China from Thailand will also increase. Measures will be considered in proportion to the virus’ prevalence in China. MPs have warned that Thailand should tread lightly and impose restrictions on potential Covid-carrying Chinese tourists otherwise the kingdom could face […]

The greed has blinded the government. This will destroy Thailand's tourism this year if the chinese start the infections again.  UK, Japan, India, USA, South Korea and today Canada will all require Chinese visitors to provide a test for next 30 days.  Even the WHO has sounded the alarm. This is not about covid itself but the refusal of China to share information and to be transparent. No one knows what variants are loose in China and if the current vaccines  will work on the new variants.

Thai tourism officials are betting their tourism strategy on Russians and Chinese and in so doing will lose the north asian and western markets. It will be too late to respond after the Chinese bring the infections.

Add Italy, Spain, France and Australia.  They can't all be wrong headed, in fact, they are being very sensible.

They are not wrong, but the problem is that the ones not imposing it will get the infected Chinese travelers and then their countries people will carry and sporead it onward and further outward infecting everyone else. One must look at why the CCP has already many times did complete lockdowns in many regions and cities. It wasn't for social re-edcuational order, although they do do that. They know something they will not tell the truth on, and I seriously hope the world fully turns their back on them after the new bat is out of the bag.

China barely informs and it's important/powerful/self-centered enough not be swayed by requests for information. Furthermore. Thailand - as well as other nations - are reluctant to impose restrictions on personal freedom because of greediness and/or high legal/moral hurdles (the latter not being an issue for Thailand).

So how about analyzing samples of the toilet waste holding tanks? If feasible, wouldn't that give an informational head start (of several weeks) regarding prevalence and variants, in order to (perhaps) be in time to respond?

I believe that’s one of the things the U.K. is looking to do. It was done routinely in the U.K. during the pandemic and was one way in which a new variant was identified.

Lol. "Greed". Control is the name of the game here. Thailand will be among the first to impose significant restrictions if it comes to that. If you mean greed in the context of hotel operators banding together to demand a quarantine is imposed and hospitals making money from forced quarantines and testing, you'd be right.

Let's cease with the hysteria about supposed "infections". The Chinese, like Thais, are some of the most highly vaccinated people in the world. Most Thais wear masks. If the vaccines and masks work, what's the problem? Why the hysteria?

You can always get another booster shot and double mask as many Thais do if you're afraid.

If restrictions are imposed, people won't come pure and simple. Mexico registered something like 35 million foreign visitors each in 2020 and 2021 exactly because no restrictions were imposed on arrivals not even a test. The only requirement they had was wearing a mask on the flight over and at the airport upon arrival and being subjected to thermal screening.

Lol. That's just theater. It's been three years already time to move on. Even the MSM admits Covid is nothing but a mild cold now.

Interesting that it's only for 30 days hopefully won't be extended. It's basically to disrupt Chinese New Year. Once February comes around, hopefully travel will get easier for them.

What was theatre? I’m confused? I was simply pointing out a fact.

They claim up to 89% vaccination currently BUT what have they been vaccinated with?

The Chinese vaccines have been trashed as a waste of time by medical associations and there has been no announcements of China importing other vaccines.

I read a similar number of 86%. That still leaves 190,000,000 people who haven’t been vaccinated.

Good to see Morocco punching above their political weight by banning people travelling from China completely. Well done Morocco.

That's great, but are you sure? It's just that I couldn't find a match for UK. I did find a match for some long-haul flights into AU and also a journal published in July (based on very few studies). It all feels to be more part of a few off-side PhD projects rather then something governments are actively pushing for.

Either it doesn't work efficiently (hard to imagine if the UK indeed managed to identify new strains this way), or it it isn't given due attention.

100% correct. Too many on here have allowed their pathological hatred of anything Chinese to thwart any rational discussion on the matter. As is always the case when it comes to China and for that matter Russia too.

You know what's actually going on don't you. Chinese hospitals and crematoriums are overloaded with corpses right now.

The pandemic is out of control in China. Millions are going to die because of Xi's refusal to take western vaccines and his flawed policies.

But here you are defending China and blaming everyone else.

Shame on you.

So have a rational discussion then @Khunmark
What is it you suppose is happening in a country in the middle of winter with a population of 1.4 Billion people who have, up until now, been locked down and hence low levels of Covid infection, the vast majority of which have been vaccinated with relatively low efficacy vaccines?

Do you think the Chinese Government are telling the truth when they say over the past few days there has been just one Covid fatality each day in Beijing?

Let’s have a rational discussion about it then….

Vaccinated against what? The virus keeps mutating and it is highly likely that the already low efficacy  Chinese vaccines are ineffective against the new mutations. The issue is the Chinese refusal to share information and to provide honest data to the world.

Is it theater that the UK NHS is on the verge of collapse from the current  Scarlet Fever, Respiratory Viruses, Flu and Covid epidemics? Have you looked at some of the US and Canadian regional healthcare crises?  Which MSM have described Covid as a mild cold?

No, it is about China's refusal to provide WHO with basic information. The Chinese didn't even provide information on effectiveness of some of their more common vaccines.  The world can manage against Covid  variants, but the world must first know what the variants are.

Japan never trusts foreign PCR tests.

The mailnaders will be tested on arrival. Allowed entry 4 airports only NRT, KIX, NGO, HND where there are resources to deal with them

Positive, sent to quarantine.

Strict measures should be taken against China for at least 6-8 months so they can get thru what was already experienced in most countires, several waves of mass infection. Thailand is making a big mistake.

Except that a new variant could originate from anywhere.

The NHS has been on the verge of collapse for years, not just this year because of flu, covid, etc...

2015 : https://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/sep/19/nhs-collapse-former-health-minister-norman-lamb

2012 : https://www.bbc.com/news/health-19577489

etc... etc...

Perhaps then British people should be also tested for Scarlet Fever, Respiratory Viruses, Flu and Covid before entering Thailand (as most European countries since it is happening everywhere in Europe) . Why should Thailand allow all these viruses to enter the country?
