A floating steakhouse sank into a lake as horrified Christmas shoppers watched it "going down like the Titanic" while restaurant management have blamed "structural issues".

Miller and Carter Lakeside have announced they will be closed 'until further notice' after the restaurant started sinking into the water at Lakeside Shopping Centre earlier on Friday.

Restaurant staff had been preparing for lunch service on the boat at the busy Essex shopping centre, when disaster struck.

Let’s not mince our words- There’s a lot at steak here . The salvage operation needs to be brisk (et).

"The only way is up".... it's very Essex.

A spokesman reassured customers that such incidents were rare, or at least medium rare.

Well done !!!

It’s riveting isn’t it.

Better go topside.

That Yuletide must have been high. Diving home for Christmas…
