Was never going to happen. A political move to appease the far right Muslims. They say a week is a long time in politics. Three years is an eternity. Won’t happen in the majority of the country. Maybe places like Aceh province, but certainly not Bali.

Jokowi is an appeaser. He won the 2014 election by making promises to the hardliners. He knew he couldn’t win by making promises to the people to fix the economy when he was running against an economist.

Alcohol sales at convenience stores were banned in 2015, nightlife shut down in many parts of Jakarta and Surabaya. Lots of jobs gone, massive damage to the economy and 7-11 exited the market for good. But it gets the mullahs on the megaphone on election day for him and that’s all the matters. Unfortunately, we’re on a slippery slope there now.

Typical of many Muslim countries that are trying to protect their fragile tourist industry.  Its clearly a case of:  ''I have a strong set principles, but if you don't like them I can always change them for you''. Its pathetic.  Either you believe in a law, or you don't.  it's that simple. The fact that this law is retrograde and idiotic, as well as being near impossible to enforce, is what should count.  Avoid the Country is my advice.

and its turned into a dump of a place with an over blown reputation.

Seeing as the headline has 'carry on bonking' in it, I think 'blown' is a relevant choice of word.
