The Thai government is preparing to introduce its controversial chemical castration policy on repeat sex offenders next month. The Justice Ministry revealed it is preparing for the new law which is set to take effect on January 23. The policy is aimed at preventing people convicted of sexual and violent crimes from reoffending. The Senate passed the bill, allowing the voluntary chemical castration of recidivist sex offenders, on Tuesday, July 11 this year. The way media headlines are used makes it sound as though the chemicals ultimately make your balls drop off. Nothing could be further from the truth and Medical Castration is perhaps a softer tone. As well as using it for sex offenders, the same process is used to treat certain cancers such as prostate cancer. Furthermore, it is reversible. I personally see it as a good move by the Thai authorities, even if it is misunderstood by many.

The drugs used in chemical castration, do create infertility, if they are used at prolonged periods, at the doses that kill sex drive. Transsexuals use the same drugs like Androcur, to stop the effects of testosterone, for their own reasons. And they do end up sterile
