Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn just predicted that next year, revenue from tourism will hit 80% of the level it was before the Covid-19 pandemic. Completely correct. The other big caveat for it hitting 80% is for China to open and return to normal life. Even if people are allowed to travel, they won’t leave if they have to do 10 days quarantine on returning. As China made up around 27% of Thailands tourism pre-pandemic, then this is a major market that could remain closed to TAT. If you then add the issue of global recession, incredibly high flight costs from Europe and a strengthening baht, then this isn’t even informed or intelligent guess work. It’s just positive state sponsored propaganda.
