What if you aren't an apple-pie eating American like 95.75% of the world?

Then you can eat rice or whatever you want.  It’s a free world. Oh sorry, not in China. In which case you can eat what you are told to eat. Enjoy!

This particular person is worse than a child. He has no interest in debate or posting reasonable statements. It’s all one liners aimed at antagonism and inflaming debate. He thinks he’s sharp and can outwit with his pithy comments. He’s easy to challenge and keep quiet as he’s got no substance to his opinions. So have fun with it.

Temper, temper. Merely an observation.

It's an idiotic observation, again something a 14yr old boy may make

Bangkok is full of expats from everywhere and I have used articles like this to find places to go

It's a totally normal and helpful post

Wasting your time mate. He’s not on this forum to debate or offer opinions or advice. He’s on it to antagonise, deflect debate and promote his employer the CCP. Have fun with it.

Central Chidlom have the most amazing display of Xmas decorations and giftware occupying much of their 5th floor, more stock and variety than I've ever seen in Western countries.

Buddhists embracing the fun and enjoyment of Xmas or commercialisation ?

Ummm. Now let me think 🤔🤔

When I first started spending much of my time in Thailand almost 20 years ago, celebrating Christmas was hardly noticed. Now, even in the North Eastern towns and cities it’s noticeable. It’s mainly driven by the large shopping malls who are tapping in to the Thai nature of having fun and celebrating anything that looks fun. I don’t think Ramadan will ever catch on here much, save for those who are actually Muslim.

I don't think it's commercialization because I don't think much being bought

But I think the festive nature is embraced because people like it and for areas doing it, it brings out consumers

So actually maybe a bit of commercialization, just not actual Xmas "gifts"

We have the whole immediate Thai family for Xmas buffet

And it's simply us paying for them tor have a good time!

(And for us to have a good time as well)

By the way

We now have a pretty big US Thanksgiving simply because the Thais ask for it!

All my wife's friends here look forward to it, so now we do it up a bit more

Actually it's pretty funny

Me and the other farang(he's Canadian) seem to be having competition Thanksgivings

He stepped up his game this year for Canadian Thanksgiving after we had a big US one last year

Now I have to step up even more

Haha

Yes, Thais will ask for anything if the farang is willing to pay for it.  Always a reason to party and spend someone elses money in LOS and if you refuse no more LOS for you!   5555

Acronym LOS = Land of Smiles.  Nickname for Thailand

Commercialisation.

Even the local 20 baht shop has gone overboard this year.  Yes, the wife seen them and you can guess the rest.

4 of these Thais own restaurants and we all rotate for different events and they pay for things far more than the two farang in the group do......

Those 4 Thai owners are taking 20 others to Mexico for the week on Dec 6th and paying for them all, as they do every year

Now when it comes to the family in Thailand we pay for most things when we get together

But we pay for most things with my family in US because neither have much money

So there's not much difference for us....
