Police and national park officials arrested a Thai couple and seized four tiger cubs worth 2 million baht this morning in Mukdahan province in northeast Thailand. Despite officers luring the couple to arrest by posing as interested customers, they panicked and told police they planned on raising the tigers themselves. If the cubs were taken from the wild, the mother will have been killed and the carcass most likely processed for TCM.

The other possibility is they were from a tiger farm. Baby tigers are a great draw in zoos etc so fetch a high price. Taking them from the mother is an important part of "speed breeding" - it forces the mother to come into season more quickly and provide another set of cubs for the smugglers.
