An armed and distressed Cambodian soldier drove through a checkpoint and crossed the border into Thailand’s eastern province of Sa Kaeo on Saturday night.  The soldier, Colonel Sok Banpol, drove his car to an intersection and parked there. He remained in his car until Sunday morning. Sok’s relatives arrived on the scene to try to convince him to surrender.  Sok later reportedly got out of his car, and walked around his car holding a gun.  Luckily, Thai SWAT police were then able to swoop in and disarm the troubled soldier without anyone being harmed.
