A young man was electrocuted to death in Chiang Mai province, northern Thailand, on Tuesday night. He leaned on an electric fence in a car park upon leaving a famous bar with his friends. CCTV footage clearly captured the incident. The 26 year old man is pictured leaving Tha Chang Pub in Chiang Mai’s Mueang district with a group of friends after the bar closed. It's a sad state of affairs that drives a property owner to install an electrical fence... probably had an ongoing problem with revelers of the bar... but to install a fence that can kill... that's criminal... low voltage fences are usually enough to get the point across.

I suspect this was either an electrical fault that caused the fence to become live. I know the Thais do some incredibly stupid things, but even I can’t believe someone would intentionally connect a fence to the mains. Electrical fences used to keep animals away are normally high voltage and low current sources. The voltage is also pulsed which allows a person to release from the fence. It’s not the voltage that kills, it’s the current flow. If this was a deliberate connection to a mains supply then surely even in Thailand that is manslaughter or even murder.
