A bit of a surprise that question. I would’ve expected a different province to be #1 (without giving the answer away).

Wikipedia suggests that the answer is correct (in 2018) - by almost 250K.  (1.764 million   vs  1.535 million)

 

I think one issue is that people who live/work in 'the other' province are still register in their home province. IMO the main tourist area is home to the best part of 1m people.

250K less “officially”, and definitely more densely populated. That would definitely affect perception as well.

Yeah. Me too. But the province with the correct answer is quite big.
