UPDATE The 14 year old Thai-British girl who ran away from home and turned to prostitution has returned to her mother after a month of staying inside a millionaire’s harem. The millionaire refused all allegations even though police found four young girls, used condoms, and pornographic filming equipment inside his house. The 50 year old mother, Naruemon (surname reserved), appealed to the authorities to help bring back her daughter, Nadia, who ran away from home in the Isaan province of Udon Thani. At the same time, a 16 year old girl filed a complaint against the same rich man. The […]

What an idiot. He could've done all of that and get into zero problems if he just brought in only 18+ year olds. Not that it would be completely legal then, but now he's in underage territory and it's in the news so he's unlikely to be able to buy his way out of jail time.

Agreed. But for some people, it’s the fact they are kids that floats their boat. I hope he rots in jail the Pervert. However, if he is a millionaire then the 14 year old will probably be charged with trespass !!

I wouldn't bet on him not being able to buy his way out!

Why does the report harp on about her nationality, its her age that's the important factor!

Yeah, idiots like this I really could care less if they are stabbed and killed in prison or just dissappear. The wrong thing the media has done is attach a stigma of teenage prositute to the 1/2 and 1/2 girl. She is certainly famous as tainted goods now and may or may not ever be able to shake this. Too bad, but somehow I think the mom is not innocent in ignoring and being a good parent. Me thinks maybe the mom worked in a bar sometime and is not white as the driven snow.

Thai media in general is obsessed with nationality. I’ve highlighted this many times to the point of annoying some people. It is another medial tool to keep the drip drip feeding of nationalism.

You see it all the time. “German man killed on Highway” - Nationality has nothing to do with the incident. Just flicking through the Bangkok Post App this morning, there are at least three items highlighting nationality.

In a nation with such low levels of immigration it’s not surprising that they find this normal. It perpetuates the “them and us culture” and continues to normalise the view that “foreigners” are somehow different. It also allows a story to be presented without the need for quality journalism where underlying or root cause issues need to be raised. You can pad out a lot of column inches by talking about the English man who fell from a Pattaya balcony. You can talk about when he checked in. Where he had travelled prior to arriving in Pattaya. A sprinkling of how police checked no forced entry or signs of a struggle and job done. No need to question Thai building standards. No need to question any lack of forensics by the RTP. Just leave the public with the assumption of yet another drunken foreigner playing the fool and falling from the balcony.

The sad part for me is how many foreigners on this forum seem to either not notice, not get it, or get frustrated when I raise it.

Well done for calling it out on this article.

Actually true, and by them doing this the 1/2 and 1/2 girl is labelled while the other girls are not. Shame on them and I have to say the mother in some way too.

The story reads more like a pornography entrepreneur was caught. Doesn't seem like his "harem", more like his studio personnel. The compensation while low by western standards was generous at 10,000 baht. This suggests he was making a decent income from his operations.

The reference to Thai British nationality provides background information without the author having to assume risk of defamation. 1/2 Thai, 1/2 British from Udon Thani.  No mention of a father.  My takeaway is that the child may be the offspring of a mother who had a "dalliance" with a british man, perhaps while she worked as a social services provider in a town known for such "romances".  It is a hidden morality tale exposing the dangers of having carnal relations with a farang, and offers some heartache as a warning to stay in one's social class, as the interest of a wealthier person will result in  trouble. Be a good girl, avoid farangs and  "wealthy" thais who seek quickies, and just do  the manual labour the uneducated feudal class are intended to do.  It's a morality tale that's been repeated for centuries.

I’m not sure if this is a tongue in cheek comment or not!

Suffice to say you will never stop humans and humanity trying to better themselves. It often doesn’t matter if that is while holding high moral standards or not. People will always want better and more. This is something the dictators never understand until they are in the plane in to exile.

"used condoms"...

The condoms aren't his, but he doesn't allow the girls to bring boys home (for sex), so whose are they? If the RTP get off their collective backside, DNA will confirm whether they are his or that the girls have been very naughty and sneaked boys into not only the house, but HIS bedroom for some horizontal gymnastics.

Naturally, being a millionaire, this is already on its way of fading into the sunset, but what would be the outcome if it wasn't one of the privileged rich?

How dare you taint and implicate the mother in this! All said tongue-in-cheek, of course. If the mother had no idea of her daughter's moral compass going astray, shame on her for her ignorance. Also, as has been picked up by other respondents to this story, the girl's mixed parentage seems to be the focus and not the fact she is way under age... how about padding the story with the details of the sleazebag who 'just loves kids' and his real motives? Underage porn on his computer, so that is near on a beheading sentence in Thailand, isn't it? What charges to be brought against him?

Or maybe others realize that nationality of foreigners who get in trouble/harms way is always mentioned everywhere in the world.

12 Japanese tourists and 4 Indians missing after avalanche

3 men arrested in Dutch teenager disappearance case

You just see it more here because of the sheer number and type of tourists.

Not saying there isn't a regrettable us/them mentality though..

I take your point. However, there were 40 million tourists visited the U.K. in 2019, the same number as Thailand. I hardly ever saw nationalities referenced unless it was pertinent to the story. Certainly not in the headlines. Maybe in the body of the story if required it.

I think you'd be shocked at how bad some of the parenting is amongst rich Thais, not just poor Isaan folk

My son goes to Thamassat and the stuff his friends get away with from their parents is shocking

Agreed. I know many rich Thai kids and they get away with murder. New cars bought for them when still 16. Best phones and clothes and plenty of money to splash around. Don’t need to worry about an education. Mummy and daddy will give them a job or set them up with a couple of coffee shops to keep them busy.
