This is due to our industry partners in Malaysia – travel agents, tour and bus operators, airlines, and the media – doing such a wonderful job in promoting Thailand, and we wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to them.” […]

Credit should be given where credit is due. Thanks to Jon Whitman's writings for being fair & not one-sided on some hot potato issues.

Now re Thai trains. Things are done for a reason. Many Thais board the train regularly to move goods or do their small business enroute. Upgraded trains mean upsized fares. That spells hardship. Besides the affordable fare is popular with budget travellers.

But even older trains have a 1st class coach. And I recall riding in a newer train to Bangkok from Hatyai. So there are options.

Proximity helps. Those staying in north Malaysia can cross to Thailand easily daily.

Should Singapore also thank Malaysia as well since there are thousands crossing the border everyday, which is one of the busiest border in the world. Pretty lame TAT.

Richard Barrow just did a transnational train trip from Bangkok all the way to Singapore via Malaysia. A very interesting read if you were to visit his FB, Twitter and website.

He even did something quite unusual - he entered Malaysia via Padang Besar and travelled all the way to Singapore on the west coast line which is the much better, more advanced and more electrified line and then on the way back to Thailand he went with the east coast line aka the Jungle Line and enter back into Thailand via Sungai Kolok.

The 'shoddy trains' problem is easy to fix. I am sure China will provide state-of-the-art rolling stock and line maintenance - for a price that Prayut is prepared to pay (but not out of his pocket).
