The government is to spend at least 23 billion baht (US$600 million) on helping people who have suffered in recent flooding. According to today’s Bangkok Post, at yesterday’s cabinet meeting Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered all agencies involved in the flood response to speed up efforts to take care of those who suffered in the flood, and the thousands who need to be rehomed. This will be a never ending situation for decades to come unless a major changes in the tophography is done to ease the disaster. Since the entire country is connected by water based transportation from olden days, it is very difficult to control the natural flow of water. As all the flow ends up in BKK which is the bottle neck, severe flood is unavoidable unless some of the flows are diverted away to the sea via man made canals.

I'm afraid this is just more if the same flawed political logic... Spending $600m dollars in handouts is easier than spending the $1 trillion dollars it will take to deploy the infrastructure need to prevent the problem.
