News Forum - Thailand tourist fee: 300 baht via air, 150 baht via land/sea
So you didn’t read the extract I sent you. You are missing the point Marc. It’s not about the up front reaction. It’s far more subtle than that. It’s a little like when governments raise taxes. They often find tax revenues fall. I’d have thought given your line of work you would be more understanding of such issues By the way, there is no used to about the 500 baht exit tax. It’s already there. Perhaps even the Thai government realised taking hard cash off people at the end of their holiday was too much even for them. So they made the excuse to make it more convenient by adding it to the airfare. A combination of that and the fact they didn’t trust those collecting the cash to not hide a few thousand baht Whats of interest is looking at historic tourism numbers for Thailand. The tax was moved to airfares around 2008 if memory serves me? The graph below has a rate of change around this same time. Coincidence? Maybe. But people who give this more thought than the basic attitude of $10 is nothing, analyse these things. -

News Forum - Five US police officers charged with murder over fatal beating of black man
I have had my rights violated by police. On at least three occasions. On one occasion I was stopped, dragged from my car and thrown on the bonnet (hood!) of the car. As I tried to stand up I was punched in the kidneys. I was then taken to the police station and held for almost 6 hours before they realised they had the wrong guy. This happens 25 years ago while in London. I don’t think we have the details of why this guy was stopped and any perceived risk the police may have thought existed. Im not defending these thugs. They are a disgrace to humanity, let alone a police officer. I’m simply saying that if you resist arrest then things can rapidly turn nasty. -

News Forum - Thailand tourist fee: 300 baht via air, 150 baht via land/sea
I know from the MILLIONS of tourists who visited Thailand when you used to have to pay $500 baht to leave! Not everyone is analyzing and critcizing every decision a country they decide to go on holiday, actually only an extreme few like us forum dwellers are if you think even the tiniest amount of people will care that there is a less than $10usd tourist tax, I honestly don't know what to tell you -

News Forum - Krabi hotel accused of favouring foreigners over Thais
This guy seems to be getting all upset simply as one person forgot to tell them that the golf cart wasn’t available but there was a mini van. A mistake perhaps? I was also astonished to read the following: A local boat driver who witnessed the incident gave an interview with Thairath yesterday. He said it was an issue with the hotel. He said the local tour boats and vendors in Krabi or Railay Beach provide the same level of service to all tourists at the same price whether they are Thai or foreign. Last year I was on this very beach with a group of friends. We were sitting at a table near the beach and wanted to get a long tail boat to banana beach on a nearby island. I went and asked and was told it would be 1,000 baht return for two people. I came back to check with friend. One of the Thais then went and asked the very same person. He was offered 500 baht return for two people. Utter clap trap from this boat operator. -
