Stress from money worries or relationship worries needs to be dealt with by working, working out, putting your social media device down and getting out and living a life....Not Psychiatric drugs.

Deal with it, don't mask it with drugs

Somewhat surprised by your comment.

This is a simplified version:

Stress affects Dopamine & decreases it. Being a 'feel-good' hormone, if one has less of it, one feels not good.

Psychiatric medication helps with this, a long with addressing the cause of the stress, eating healthily, gentle exercise & rest also contribute to recovery.

Here's a link on the subject which is extremely complex, but might be worthwhile reading.

Yes, and stress can be dealt with by working, and keeping physically active

Am sure medication can help, but possibly not necessary in every case.  Everyone wants quick and easy cures to maladies these days.   Not always the best IMO, takes work and commitment to better yourself

You have clearly never been majorly depressed. Some people need a chemical boost to help break the cycle of hopelessness so they can get out of bed and get back to living. The school of “Work hard, think happy thoughts, snap out it….” belongs back in the past when the connection between chemical imbalances in the brain and mental health issues were not understood.

Indeed. We should all be thankful that SSRI medication (that really revolutionized depression treatment) is available. Remember, anyone could get a depression.

Yet "back in the past" depression was not even a diagnosis until after WW2.  Chemical imbalances just started showing up 50 or 60 years ago then?  The famous rant of Tom Cruise on this subject is pretty meaningful I think.  But of course in our modern world thousands of psychiatrists and drug manufactures would lose their business if people could treat their own "chemical imbalances" without therapy and artificial drugs.

It is all good, am sure many people have better and more productive lives because of newer treatments involving drugs

Yeah drugs wouldn't do it, it would have to be a full lobotomy.
