Cars and motorbikes are extremely reluctant to stop for skolkids at the zebra crossing outside our school. Obviously, even a barrier wouldn't help.

It is a norm in developing countries like Thailand, India etc where people don't wait for the train to pass through. They will simply cross as they like expecting the train to apply emergency brake for them. These huge machines are fully loaded with locomotives and they are moving at great strength to pull the entire chain of coaches. Unless people are properly educated about the danger of such crossing, things will continue to happen. One way is to educate is to change the heading of such news. I should be "Vehicle crossed the path of the train and 1 killed and 3 injured" Put the blame on the vehicle not the train
