Not getting a ticket when you get pulled over by police in Thailand sounds nice, but maybe not if it’s replaced with the traffic court date instead. The Cabinet Committee approved emotion yesterday under the Traffic Case Draft Act to create a Traffic Law Enforcement Department which would make being cited for a violation a more formal process that could often include a court appearance. The planned revision to the Traffic Case Act would create a process that would be separate from normal criminal court cases, but would allow police officers going to stop someone for a traffic violation to eschew […]

They'd have to build new and larger courthouses to accommodate the increase in hearings though I doubt this daft draft will get off the ground.

There are not many police who wouldn't rather simply collect the fine at the point of infraction 😉 convenient for everyone 🤣

Exactly. And nothing will change.

Quote: The plan is intended to push drivers in Thailand to be more aware and obedient to the current traffic laws, whose penalties were supposed to increase on Monday but will now be increased in three months

What a joke. Regular traffic enforcement or perhaps a traffic enforcement branch of the police who’s job is solely to enforce the rules will work better. Bigger fines just provide law enforcement more opportunities to collect revenue. Officers duty should be to ticket drivers for violations only and the offender pays at the courthouse. Non payment means court and/or confiscation of vehicles.

How would the plod on the ground get his salary supplement if 'fines' are removed in lieu of a court summons? Will never take off!

Perhaps even an active visibility on the roads pulling over overt cowboys and unroadworthy vehicles? But that would mean emerging from the station cocoon for something other than an event that has already occurred.

In light of proposed new penalties and proposed daft enforcement, I can only imagine the Car Tint shops will do a roaring trade in dark all round film which effectively blocks phone and seat belt infringement.

Accident injury and deaths may increase.
