That may well be in the making now with Real Estate crash/non-payment of mortgages/possible Bank failures and the whole domino effect which could follow.

Coupled with the above, devastating floods and a mammoth drought is wreaking havoc on food supplies, electricity production and transport.  The latter already suffering due to covid and absurd lockdowns which are now causing protests the like of which never seen before.

China is facing a potential meltdown.

On the other hand, I understand Xi's long-term BRI strategy to shore up future food and essential supplies and their supply routes with naval bases and 'friendly' ports from which to operate.  It would be otherwise too easy for Western allies to cut off westbound access by sea in the event of a major conflict.  And that conflict could be closer than the 50 to 100 year projection Xi presumably envisaged.
