Thaiger Posted August 14, 2022 #240691 Share Posted August 14, 2022 A new blend of utility, art, and technology will transform mundane manhole covers in Bangkok’s Chinatown into beautifying sources of information according to a new plan. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt met with members of the Office of Thailand Science Research and Innovation as well as Silpakorn University to develop the new project. The plan is to create beautiful manhole covers in the Charoen Krung, Sampeng, and Yaowarat areas of Chinatown that will allow tourists to discover a cultural map of the neighbourhoods. Each cover will contain not just artwork related to the neighbourhood it is in, but also a QR […] The story Chinatown manhole covers to use art, tech to become cultural map as seen on Thaiger News. HolyCowCm Posted August 14, 2022 #240699 Share Posted August 14, 2022 And from what country did he or they take this idea from?
GKThai Posted August 15, 2022 #240752 Share Posted August 15, 2022 What an excellent idea. Yes we know it's been done elsewhere, but so what? It is good for tourism - a bit quirky and nice - as well as making the place look nicer for the locals. I don't live in the Chinatown area, but I know some who live nearby, and I am sure they would be happy to see this too. The new governor is at least trying to do real things to add some nice touches - yes there are some big issues as well - the flooding being a major one (which he acknowledged and took the blame for, despite not being in office before), and that is a major problem that is not going away any time soon - huge improvements in drainage will help - but they are not an overnight fix, and eventually even that will not help as Bangkok sinks due to other much more complex problems. Good one!

Good one! Actually I sort of like this BKK governor and don't really care where the idea was taken from.. He is kind of quirky and almost normal in a sense, and so far so good for how the people love or like him and what he is doing. I think Japan and also China do the covers. So where ever he or they got the idea from, it is good but it isn't their idea to take credit for. That is all I was saying. Below is not Chiang Mai, but CM started doing this about over a year ago on many of these electrical boxes. For the msot part it adds and looks good. Now the flooding is not only Bangkok, but if it keeps going the way it looks, Bangkok will be under water if they don't build retaining walls like some world cities have done. I love Bangkok, but only for a few days at a time now.
