Correct It does not matter anymore if you know the rules either visa exemtp or 60 day real one can get an extension and some can change visa type inside Thailand. Other countires probably do not allow extentions from visa exempt.

As long as people dont line up with the Indians at the Visa on Arrival counter and waste time who cares what they call it

I agree with you to a point. For example, it's easier to refer to the Non-O visa based on being married to a Thai lady as a Thai wife visa for the guys as they relate  to it better. However, with the tourist stuff, because there are so many choices for tourists, if you don't use the correct terminology, you may end up giving the wrong advice to people. Especially, if the person is from a non eligible country for visa exemption. Here are the current choices: Visa exemption, visa on arrival, single entry tourist visa, multiple entry tourist visa, and in the past, there was also a special tourist visa. Each with their own set of criteria, such as nationalities that qualify for it, cost, validity of the visa to use, where you can apply, permission to stay granted when entering at the airport, having to fill an application form and pay a fee on arrival or not, the cost, different supporting docs required, and additional docs required only for some nationalities, whether you can get an extension or not inside Thailand, the cost, where to apply, and single entry or multiple entry, and special promotions, such as the Indian visa exemption on now or the previous 45 day visa exemption scheme. So, maybe you can see now why you need to refer to the tourist options with the correct terminology.
