National No Alcohol Day coincides with “Khao Pansa” (entering Pansa), an auspicious Buddhist holiday celebrated across southeast Asia. Khao Pansa marks the first day of “Vassa”, the 3 month Buddhist Rains Retreat. Well, 543 years is an educated guess. People used to say that the Buddha did his thing 25 centuries ago, but more and more often I see people saying 26.

No alcohol, no work, as the government decided to give itself 3 days off, including customs and departments at the port.

This government isn’t serious about improving the economy—constantly inventing new holidays in hopes the civil servants will keep supporting them.

Non-alcoholic beer for a day is not that bad
