Imagine sitting on a plane for 12 hours off on your holidays, having come from a country where things are back to normal, then landing here and seeing something reminiscing a zombie movie and then whipping out the old mask and putting it on? The actual concept is beyond tragic and surely unthinkable for most.

Very true. Faceless people wandering aimlessly around in masks does invoke scenes from zombie films.

Slaving away for a whole year, coming to paradise for holidays, only to wander around with a mask on in the stinking heat, unable to admire Thailand's beautiful people who are faceless and mask-clad. Its definitely a huge tourism turn off.

Read the headline. It's in the future tense, with a decision due to be made today.

No, this refers to the meeting held already on Friday 8th July.

They made no changes to the current mask rules, masks remain voluntary.

Ah good. No need to get muzzled up then. Very surprising. My apologies Transam. You won the bet 🙂

Stop scaremongering with your bar stool wisdom, it's pathetic, or do you have any evidence to back up what you are saying? Nah, thought not.

A bit more detail for you as it seems you do not keep up with the news, particularly before having a bout of keyboard  dysantery.

Thai Schools Shut Down Again Due To New Spread Of COVID-19 (thesmartlocal.com)

To prevent the return of COVID-19, many schools nationwide have decided to temporarily close again after acknowledging that some students might be at risk of catching the virus. Besides 127 schools in Rayong, where the spike took place, Bangkok Post reported that some more schools have turned to safety first mode:

  1. [Bangkok] Sai Namthip School in Sukhumvit Soi 22 moved all classes online since 17th July 2020 onward, Wachirathamsatit School in Sukhumvit 101 temporarily closed the school.
  2. [Trat] Trat Trakankhun School closed as one of their students had been to Rayong about the same time as the Egyptian soldier who got infected.
  3. [Samut Prakan] Wisutthikasattree School closed as two students had been to the same shopping mall in Rayong on the same day as the Egyptian group.
  4. [Chon Buri] Sawang Boriboon Wittaya School will close for 5 days to sanitise the premises as parents of some students have been to Rayong in recent days.
  5. [Uthai Thani] Uthai Wittayakhom School will close for 3 days as a sibling of one student were in the same hotel as the infected group from Egypt.
  6. [Buri Ram] Kanlayaprasit School will close for 7 days after the school found one teacher who visited her alumni who worked at the hotel where the patients from Egypt stayed.

Those are all from mid 2020?

Only one school currently reporting a closure?

Does the government want increase in tourism or do they want the tourist to travel another country in this region.?

Thai government wants to keep the state of emergency. Which is why they have to keep the people frightened otherwise they will not accept it. The easiest way to keep them frightened is by having endless discussions about facemasks since that is a clearly visible measure.

Edit: they dont really care about tourists. You know, the ones they call 'dirty farangs'.

We came to Vietnam back in Feb. then to Thailand in March, planning to stay until Sept. or so. Got tired of wearing the mask, so returned to FL in May. We'll come back to Thailand around October. Maybe...

You think it is restricted to just one school?   Covid is not that selective.

That was not even remotely close to my experience for 6 weeks all over Thailand in May/June

But I guess you guys can make up these delusional fantasies online, while people ACTUALLY go to Thailand and enjoy themselves...............
