Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt yesterday insisted he has nothing to hide after it became public knowledge his family owns a luxury house in the US worth 72 million baht. The 56 year old city chief says the 4-bedroomed house on South Jackson Street, Seattle, Washington, belongs to his son, Sanpiti Sittipunt. The attacks begin. Heaven help him if he starts talking about previous administrations budgets expenditure and possible corruption.

Sounds completely reasonable. 1 rai of land in the middle of BKK selling for 40 million baht and then using that money to buy a $1.4 million house in Seattle (which is probably about the median price for that area).

Even if everything is legit, he still has to explain now what he can do for Bangkok, where the vast majority make less than one-third of what he spends for his son's education alone.

Lesson: don't rush to buy a 2-floor, 300 m2, $1.5 million house in the (enter Western country here) for your son/daughter in their first year of college, if you're thinking of running for a local, but high-profile, post.
