Last night, about 20,000 visitors arrived on the shores of Haad Rin. The tourists passed through 5 checkpoints to be screened for weapons and drugs before they could carry on to enjoy the night. Koh Pha Ngan’s provincial governor said the number of tourists marked the improving tourism situation. Governor Wichawut Jinto said the island was expected to rake in about 50 million baht on Tuesday night alone. Meanwhile, the island’s authorities […]

Literally every part of this story is wrong:

- This is the 8th Full Moon Party since Covid, not 3rd.

- there was no Covid screening or testing.

- they charged 200b not 100b.

- this full moon was much smaller than the peak in April. Every local vendor reported a decrease in income for the last 2 months.

Sadly, full moon party is on the decline as word spreads among backpackers that the government is closing the party 6 hours early, meaning every other tourist location has parties going later than Full Moon Party. In Samui, for example, clubs are open nightly until 6am, but Full Moon Party is shut down at 2am.

Add to that:

- the new plan to tell Thais that full moon in August is on the 12th though all the foreigners are coming for the 13th when they currently don't have a party planned (though a coalition of businesses are working to create a second Full Moon Party for travelers on the 13th)

- the move to convert the center of the party to a cannabis center selling relaxing teas and brownies, and

- the skyrocketing rent from landowners who are declaring Thai tourism is back to 100% despite figures around 5%

...The future of Full Moon Party is looking grim.
