Does anyone have any knowledge of how the 1500 passengers can board their respective flights? Currently, there are no rules yet in place for Thai embassies to process COE applications under the sandbox plan. Just curious as to how this will come together at such a late date.

Good question. And there are so many other good question., But very few answers.

I think there is an opportunity for some consultants (KPMG?) to 'teach' Thai Government people how to properly plan for things in regards to any proposed idea/program.  This includes brainstorming ideas and problems, without any criticism or negative comments about any harebrained idea that anyone raises.  This of course is extremely unlikely to happen in Thailand because once a senior official/person has raised an idea given to him by (insert whatever) it is imperative that no one criticises or says anything negative about that idea - losing face is unacceptable.

But on a more serious note (monty again) there are about 600-1000 people that come into Thailand every day. They are business people and family members and diplomats and military and government and others. Now that they can spend 2 weeks on Phuket instead of 2 weeks in a hotel room in Bangkok, yes there will be arrivals in Phuket (probably). But most of those will be people who chose Phuket island for their quarantine period.  Genuine real authentic tourists? Not many.

And now for something completely different - the Thai Government has just announced that they are going to ...... (insert whatever lunatic idea you can think of here). I doubt if anyone can think of anything that they would not.  Eg:-  Thailand is going to become the SEAsia hub for tourists to travel to the moon. Elon Musk is considering Thailand as a base for his SEAsia operations in the future - as long as there are no more Expats living here who are very experienced in cave diving and will rubbish his idea about a submarine to rescue kids and who he thinks are paedophiles.

They'll need 1-2 million in the second half of the year to have any meaningful impact. Keep in mind folks, in 2019 Phuket had about 6 million international tourist arrivals (the 10 million number floating around includes Thai arrivals). At an optimistic average of 2,000 a day till the end of the year, that's only about 350,000 arrivals. So this is like claiming "our numbers are down only 94%, not 99%".

The only question remaining then is, what are they smoking over at TAT?

The Governor also states it will be easier for tourists from the UK to come to Phuket Mmm wheres he got this from ?  i just checked the uk.gov org site and Thailand is on Amber with a request from our Govt not to travel into Amber country's. Never mind a 326 confirmed flights are arriving with some new Airlines coming he said. Forget the Chinese or Indians saving Phuket's Tourism a bunch of Travel and press agents are flying in from Dubai to  report on the official reopening of Phuket.
