We knew this would happen. Police use water cannons to repel reveling youths defying water-splashing ban. How ironic. That’s exactly what happened on Wednesday, when Police deployed two water cannons on Ratchadamnoen Nok Road in response to pro-democracy groups celebrating Songkran by having a big ol’ water fight, in defiance of the government’s ban on water splashing behavior during the Thai New Year. They splashed buckets of water. They squirted vibrant coloured squirt guns. They laughed and splashed around Democracy Monument. They hurt nobody. Members from Talufh, Ratsadon and the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration pro-democracy all joined in […]

The bastards; how dare they have fun!

What is Thailand coming to?

The main aim of the military government is to turn Thailand into a giant Army base, but without the joy, good feeling and the ambiance.

The cops were itching to use the water cannons because they have been collecting dust since the last big protests. Thailand never fails to amaze the world with abject foolishness

This is a small taste of what's to come. The people are sick and tired of restrictions that achieve nothing in curbing the virus, the slow roll out of boosters and the never ending arrogance of the incompetent so-called government. It is going to be a long hot summer.

Agree.

Idiots that enjoy soaking each other with filthy water, activities should be confined to private properties among themselves.

what, countering idiots that are breaking the law?  Yep, terrible.  First some deluded farangs moan because the police don't enforce the law, and when they do enforce it, they moan about that too.   So it's only okay for them to react with law breakers when you agree is it?  The 'abject foolishness' seems to be elsewhere don't you think?

Sadly if you want to go out, you have no option of not getting wet by some drunk fat tourist with no shirt and thai boxing shorts no mask laughing out loud.. I'm all up for a bit of fun, but here in patong it's not good

well said.  It should be confined to pools, lakes, rivers and the sea, then everyone is happy and I for one can avoid those places for a few days. As for the farangs who play this Thai activity, they are immature  idiots of the first order.

Time to launch a Social Credit System in Thailand. Those unruly people don't care about the law. 😀

There are some risks involved implementing such a system but then , how do you want to keep 1.5 billion people law obedient in China for example ? Thailand is devided between traditional and unlimited values in which each individual can do whatever he/she wants. Demoncracy if that is what they're aiming for does not require to become an outright anarchist. Just my take.

Water cannons to stop people from playing with water? Isn't this the very definition of irony?

This is the definition:

Oh I guess it’s OK to shoot a water cannon as long as it’s toward every person or child, regardless of race who has a squirt gun of dish of water. My mistake

Pattaya Soi 6/7, water fights all over the place according to reports on SM, no Police in sight of course.

Exactly right. A friend of mine was in Khao San Rd on Wednesday and said many Thais were selling water guns at 400-600 baht (bought in the market for 100-200 baht) to people and there were buckets of water available to top up your “Ammo”. But this is all the tourists fault apparently.
