The law clearly states that if no will is found, any assets or money belonging to the monk must be given to the temple where the monk was ordained, says the dean.

That is convenient. For the temple

No. It is common sense.  The monk is not allowed to "own" money. Therefore, any money held by the monk would be on behalf of the wat or for declared specified purposes, e.g. to pay medical bills for someone or for building a school. The law is set up this way to disrupt inappropriate financial activities.  If there was no declaration of financial activity, then the only option a available is that it was for the benefit of the wat . This keeps everyone clean.

How does it keep anyone clean? The money just disappears into another monk's possession I assume.

The monk’s cash has been deposited into a bank account jointly owned by the current acting abbot of the temple and three of the monk’s younger siblings.

4 other monks, perhaps? And are the "three of the monk’s younger siblings" the Siblings from the dead one? Or from the  abbot? 4 brothers became monks, that is a dynasty !

40 million baht kept under his bed allegedly,  wow I'm surprised  he wasnt burgled if it was common knowledge.  

Maybe they could use the 10 million  to help locals in real need instead of it going back into the temple coffers again later

Why was it undef his bed and not in a bank in the first place , who knows who could have dipped into it over time as the true amount was unknown it seems.

You'd think misty-eyed villagers would eventually wise up to the longest running grift in human history ~ organized religion.   The ultimate pyramid scheme, or perhaps a Corporation offering lucrative franchise operations complete with established brand recognition, marketing and  prepared sales pitch scripts, and standardized uniforms.

I think attacking his credibility after a stretch like that is too much. 

I have no idea of the source of the funds and neither does anyone on here, but given the amount of temple donations so prevalent and over so much time, it’s probably not excessive - who knows

It was money given to him by a dead friend so he could buy watches for his other pals to pay the ferryman as he entered the river to pass to the other side.  All a bunch of crooks and it sounds like the Dean wants his cut now that it has been discovered.  The truth is you can not take it with you when you die, so give it back to the people and help them out as they have suffered from this Governments poor handling of the Covid mess.

Jesus - ok break down the ‘greed’ for us … who’s being greedy, by how much and how extravagant has this guy been with an amount that works out at a pittance per year of his service - (presumably you’re obviously aware of how he came about this money when slating him ? ie he didn’t put the hours in to help the needy and just did bank jobs right?) - and none of it was distributed to the poor ? But you’ll know all this correct ? The pre auditing on here is hilarious 

I’m not saying he’s a saint I have no idea but the eagerness to climb all over him is ludicrous (but typical of the anti Thais)
