As of yesterday, Thai workers can now work in Saudi Arabia, and will be protected by Saudi laws. Thailand’s cabinet approved two draft agreements about this yesterday, which will last for five years. They will be extended for another five years unless one or both parties decide against it. Both countries will cooperate to make sure recruitment and employment is fair to employers and employees. Plenty of thais used to work in saudi before the incident in the 80's put a stop to it.

It was considered fairly good well paid work by many and there was never a shortage of applicants.there was a lot less work about in early 80s thailand particularly in rural areas and unemployment was common.

Now due to the pandemic there has to be fairly high unemployment again.

I won't be surprised to see thais in desired occupations returning to the middle east again.
