Recommended Posts

A Thai TikToker has shared a video of a street vendor in Phuket selling mangosteens at the rather steep price of 500 baht per kilogram, considered too expensive for Thai people (or anyone for that matter). The Tiktoker said she didn’t mean to offend the seller by claiming that the price was ridiculously high, but merely sought out other people’s opinions about the price. Not surprisingly she found that her viewers also thought it the mangosteens were overpriced. The video features a local fruit vendor spruiking various kinds of fruits, but the footage focuses on the pile of mangosteens with […]

Lots of things are overpriced these days. Mangosteen, pork meat, gasoline, PCR tests ... Time for the government to take action!

Overpriced in Phuket isn't news. It's everyday.

What the duck is spruiking ?

I'd never heard of it either, it's a word used by sales persons to speak in public.

Reading it in the context above gives me the impression it might be some sort of deviant behaviour to poke a hole into a water melon.

It may be different elsewhere in the country, but I expect THB 40 - 60, depending on whereabouts in the season. Outside of the season, mangosteens are not to be seen (quite literally, since a price tag of 500 would cause immediate and permanent blindness).

This is the outcome of politics regards no tourists in Thailand. Simple as that!

Hyper inflation. Thank goodness for social media. Boycott these stalls

Are they available yet? Last year it seemed like most of the ones I bought that looked good were bad

Yes, not in a large quantity yet. Locals here think 50 baht is super expensive.  Usually 3 kilo for 100 baht.

Everything in Phuket is way overpriced. When the tourists are plentiful they can get away with it, and why not - but not when tourists are as thin on the ground as they are at the moment. But then there is also that odd Thai logic on pricing - no demand, too expensive, put the price up.

So the TikToker offended the seller ….. we now just have to wait for the next news article ….. TikToker being sued for bad review of fruit stand 🍉
