Recommended Posts

A steady rise in Thailand’s infection rate is giving the government cause for concern as the Covid-19 task force meets later today. PM Prayut Chan-o-cha will chair a CCSA meeting in which officials are expected to discuss additional measures aimed at managing the recent spike in cases. Yesterday, Thailand reported 14,822 new infections, with 2,635 of those in Bangkok. At the CCSA meeting today, officials are expected to table tougher disease prevention measures ahead of Valentine’s Day and for the big Songkran holiday in April. The Bangkok Post reports that Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will update the CCSA on […]

Stop reporting daily Covid-19 cases to lessen public anxiety, while impose stricter prevention measures...🤔

What is the rate of bed occupancy in ICU ?? that s the most important indicator.

Last month it was empty

We cant stop Covid, cases will surge, that s unavoidable.

Testing/isolating is useless with Omicron and its mutations

The various government spokespeople are as usual giving out mixed messages. Three weeks ago it was no need to worry we have everything under control and can cope with the forecast of 30 000 new cases per day. Now it is threats of tighter restrictions even though the new cases are less that 15 000 per day. And a quick scan of where there are hotspots shows that it is schools that are in the forefront, but mass vaccination of school agers is far from being achieved. However the threats of restrictions are aimed at adults. Once again the government is performing like a hydra headed monster and leading to confusion. No wonder that public confidence has gone through the floor.

I read a week or two ago, covid was showing up with many Russians, and surrounding areas....so why not pull the plug on that route(s)?   well, to late now......Thailand will be completely neutered if they do any more to put restrictions on tourists.

The temptation here is to criticise this confused and bewildered government. I can’t criticise the move to curb further infections as all countries take such actions. The problem is the apparent lack of any cohesive plan or consistency of message.  The overriding feeling I have reading this article is sadness for the Thai people. A middle income country is being held back and damaged to the point where it will take years to recover. Another lost generation….

You don't think Prayut is relying on what the Tarot cards instruct him what to do next?

Let's hope they act expeditiously to control the recent spike. This isn’t the time to let down the guard. Looking again at places peopler gather unnecessarily would be best, especially indoors. Bars and pubs because of close interactions and milling about are especially problematic followed by anything else where people congregate. Open air events that provide some distancing should be OK.  Essential services like buses, markets etc .should provide a good exchange of air.

Thailand is doing pretty well with vaccines but I don't know about therapeutics. However, the medical community seems to be doing well with treatments, which is a hugh positive.

Since Thailand has been much more successful in handling covid, they should get strong public support.

But they haven’t yet to stop reporting, …. And as its rising you could imagine the Thai outcry if they did.

The govt has no clue what they’re doing — and even more scary they think they’re doing it well.

Stop hospitalizing healthy people immediately.

If people want to be neurotic and seal themselves up at home, they’re free to do it. Let the rest of us live our lives if we want to.

You are more idealistic than I.  Far too many expats and Thais I see throw caution to the wind and congregate in homes, restaurants, on the beach etc...  And have been doing it for over a year.

Outdoors I agree, but the idea of social distanceing will never be followed by many

I do think the pandemic is becoming endemic as those who wanted vaccines have received them, and those who refuse vaccines you simply cannot change their minds  IMO

The hospitalization numbers could cause big problems again but I see no way of forcing vaccines or refusing hospitalization to those who get seriously sick from Covid and are unvaccinated

Exactly.  Only those with serious syptoms and are hospitalized should be counted/reported.  Deaths are not rising yet AFAIK

What happened? I thought they are done counting those cases especially with asymptomatic or mild symptoms, only focused on the one in the hospitals with ventilators or deaths. Thai government lies to the public and the citizens of Thailand.

Over 15k cases today. They should:

1) Ban all acohol sales immediately.

2) Stop test and go.

3) bring back 15 night quarantine.

4) introduce 6pm curfew unless for essential workers.

5) introduce temperature check on amphur border.

6) only allow triple vaccinated to leave their house.

That proposal was 2 days ago....feels like 2 years in the land of flip flops.

It's probably already forgotten.

Two things there …. 1. You thought something about Thai officials doing something, and 2. Thai officials never stop counting, regarding this but especially where money is involved too!

Aha, so that's what "we have to learn to live with the virus" looks like, as the government repeatedly emphasizes. Discuss about new restrictions, as soon the numbers rising..? And didn't they also say, that the daily new infections should not be published anymore, because these numbers are getting less relevant with the Omicron variant?

So According to you, Fred Thailand has handled the Pandemic more successfully than others? who allowed the Delta variant to spread throughout Thailand by allowing people to travel during holidays? who tipped off all Construction workers that they will e locked in camps so they disappeared quickly back to their provinces taking the virus with them,  who allowed the Hi-Sos from BKK to travel during a lockdown for a knees-up in Phuket? or allowing international stars to come for NYE celebrations during a pandemic? yes, he has handled it well.
