I think a lot of them (not all) crow because they are annoyed in general but do not want to admit it.

Imagine going there, buying a house, a car, paying money to the wives family for years as they have been fooled into thinking that is normal.

They wake up one day and realise they do not own the house or car and they are not as well off as when they first arrived and are now stuck under the thumb of their wives.

It must be frustrating and thus moan at an 80 baht ticket.

Ouch, that's some hard truth.

Sounds like middle age crisis in any country :-|

BUT there is hope in 'victim culture' PC civil wars. You can be a victim and claim moral outrage over anything!

Doesn't matter if you are as rich as Chaleo Yoovidhya, you've been overcharged for a tuktuk and now you are a victim!!!!

Not concerned, I am laughing about it really, plus I am skiving off work again, instead of writing software code I am messing about replying to these comments. Just a lazy day.

I am glad I am not an expat though as I might have lost a house, a car and been paying for non-existent buffaloes and imaginary sick wives parents for decades.

Yeah but you would have all those cherished memories

And the water buffalos aren't non-existent! They just belong to the neighbors :-)

Yes that member of the Beatles was a particular clever bloke, he used to sing about peace and poverty and then hang about in bed all day on a sort of socialist strike with his Japanese wife counting all his money in a penthouse in New York.🤣

Spot on!

It is funny how he lived in two time zones though, early 20th century he was in Russia being a tyrant and in the 1960's he was in England singing, he must have been the doctor from Dr Who or something.

All the royalties from his early band "The Bold Bolsheviks" big hit "She loves you(r tractor, yeah yeah yeah)" helped finance his perfect physical health and plastic surgery obsession. Or so I heard.

He was going to go on and have more plastic surgery but his wife Yoko OhNo put a spoke in the wheels.

That's what you get when you are famous enough to be listened to by millions and mention Jesus in a perceived negative way in a bible bashing country.

No doubt, Gods plan. He sent David coded instructions in The Catcher In The Rye only he could understand.

I read the book and it just put me to sleep.

They aren't "so called expats"

They are expats by definition

Expats isn't determined by your visa status or work status

And actually, if anything, an expat is temporary and not permanent

I don't accept the term Expat. I'm a foreigner (falang) living in Thailand trying my best to fit in. I speak Thai, eat Thai food, dress like Thais.  I guess I'm an assimilated falang. Rarely do people address me as falang but the term doesn't offend me. Mostly they use my name or call me uncle.

The foreign people who live in falang ghettos, only associate with foreigners, only eat foreign food and are always critical are a sorry bunch. Forums are full of them so be warned.

And these forums are also filled with farang trying to prove how "Thai" they are

And it just goes back to what I said recently

The whole community is just filled of people trying to convince themselves and others that only they know and only they are doing it right and everyone us is wrong or not on their level

It's honestly quite sad, just a bunch if insecure old white guys......

So many guys not comfortable in their own skin to just worry about themselves and not every one around them....

No it's true!

There are double prices every where!

And its all part of a secret racist genocide against farang!!!

I think the timeline is that over 30 or 40 years the expats will be so used to being overcharged they will have no will to fight!! Genocide by "being nibbled to death by goldfish"!

กบในกะลา - frog in a shell - the expats are in a coconut shell of double prices!!!

No not really. These people accept that they are better off and might be expected to pay more. They're the opposite of the cheap charlies who don't ever want to pay or want freebies.

Paying a little more never bothered me, but is actually rare. Maybe more co.mon in tourist areas but they also make Thais pay more.

Don't sweat the small stuff. It will cause a coronary some day.

Not really, but not an Expat either. I think Expat is a throwback to British colonial times when Brits tried to act superior and kept themselves  separate. That's why they wouldn't assimilate. Finding ones own niche in life by fitting in isn't always easy? Why live in a foreign country and not avail oneself to all it has to offer is sad. Some people should never leave home.

It's intended as satire :-)

Most genocides do not use different prices to kill people. They use slightly more painful methods.

And "killing" people with prices over 3 or 4 decades is a slow plan, no?

The frog in the shell is a hint that expats are like frogs - they listen to their own voices protesting double pricing  - (in a shell of other expats) - and believe it's true.

Dress like Thais?

What outfit would that be? The building site latest fashion or Bri-nylon for your street cred?

I wished we has lost the 2nd WW and were now being controlled by the Germans.🙄

The brilliant “Man in the High Castle” TV Series ( Philip K Dick book; also wrote Blade Runner & Minority Report) . Alternate Earth where Germans & Japs won Ww2 ……. makes you wonder, looking at the mess we have now….. 🤨

Never did understood though why nazis had to genocide other races ….. just give them their own separate land far away in South America if you feel that strongly as victors …

I am not sure what the accepted definition of a Thai is anyway.

I am told people in villages in Isaan sit on the floor to eat, their kitchens are outside the house, have their own form of clothes probably from when that part of Thailand was in Laos 150 years ago.

Some Thais I know around the Bangkok area live in foreign styled houses, have Mercs and drivers and maids (Konchais), wear western clothes eat at a table and have cooks to cook for them.

They like Chivas Regal whiskey, Thai and western food.

The Thais in Bangkok would not understand the language spoken in Isaan or the Thai dialect of southern Thais.

There is no such thing as Thai stereotype.

"Man in the high castle", I saw the series.

But the UK wouldn't have been run by the Germans anyway as it was mostly the Russians who mostly on their own defeated the Germans, the Brits and the Americans just mopped up poorly defended part of Europe, their main task was to get as far East as possible to stop the Russian taking over all of Germany and then keeping it.

The nazis used genocide as they thought the people they killed were inferior.

I agree with you on that.

People should assimilate and enjoy the country they are living in.

But not a lot of people do all that much anywhere.

I would say Thais assimilate a hell of a lot less in the West than farangs in Thailand.

Russians fought only on land against Germany and required substantial German production bombing ,and materials ,from USA & UK ,to avoid defeat in 1942. UK / USA beat the Germans at sea and air and later on land in North Africa & Europe. US/  UK also defeated Japan without any Russian help at all. Western Europe was far more strongly defended than the Eastern Front.

Make that all of mainland Europe……no need to kill other peoples just be separate from them …..

The UK played a very small part  against the Japanese, Russia nil, it was 99% USA military which defeated Japan.

Russia produced its own tanks, aeroplanes and other war supplies by moving their factories piece by piece a thousand miles East, where they built three times the tanks and aeroplanes the Germans had and later in the was easily had the Germans on the run pushing them West starting in June 1943, the Brits/USA did not arrive in any real force until 1944.

One thing I do know is my 2nd WW history, what you are coming out with is propaganda fed to the masses at the time and since due to the onset of the cold war.
