I don't know, 20% speaking, 35% understanding

My wife moved to Canada

So we concentrated so much on her learning English

I've tried a few times online and really do want to make a go of it again

My wife moved away too, I celebrate the event every year by having a party. 😃

We are both wrong, definition:"An expatriate is a person residing in a country other than their native country".

But my main point is that so called expats have no more rights or knowledge than any of us who only spend six months a years here in single visit, but many claim to 'know' this or that which we are not privy to.

I have had the following reply to many conversations when talking with a long term visitor, "But I live here", they say.

I don't argue, I just laugh and say, "That is not my fault'.

A person with boots on the ground is in a position to know more, but it doesn't mean they do :-)

A smart person might be able to put together a better picture from afar than someone drowning in the details in front of their own noses.

And I agree with you on all of that

I often point that out myself......

But I'm not wrong on the expat definition  😀

The dual pricing at national sites in Thailand, museums etc almost cripples me on some of my visits, if I go to the aquarium in Phuket I pay more, I can't remember the price, 100 baht for me I think and 50 baht for Thais.

I then have to stay in for the next two weeks in order to recoup that 50 baht.

I have been to the aquarium about three times in the last fifteen years, I will soon be bankrupt. 😄

@JamesR it's not the money its the principle

You are being subjected to horrible racist discrimination! You are the same as oppressed people of the world! Oppressed Palestinians, dispossessed ethnic minorities, persecuted Yazidi being raped and ethnically cleansed - these are your people now.

Being double priced makes you a victim!!! Self righteous outrage is now your right!!!

I doubt expats will be around much longer with the widespread tolerance of the racist genocide of "double pricing".

It's no different from the Hutu/Tutsi massacre or Apartheid South Africa.

Expats are outraged and suffering, just as the American blacks were humiliated by being forced to sit in the backs of buses,, so too are expats being humiliated by THB80 "tourist rates" at waterfalls.

There is no difference. None.

I shall avoid the forthcoming tribal butchery by sharpening my Pink ID Card to form a lethal weapon if refused at national parks and the death squad summoned. 😂first I must use Google Maps to find these alleged “ national parks” and navigate there.think my nearest might be Phang Na an entirely convenient 200kms distant in another province, with different Covid rules😀

Was still a hundred times better than the CCP mainland which was why millions wanted to migrate from there to British

Of course we can and must believe the beloved CCP that due to the heroic endeavors of the patriotic masses, Covid deaths in China are only 4,650😂 🥸Ed: nearer one million probably …India of course didn’t count their untouchables and stopped recording anyway after two weeks. 😋😆

Because I tried to pay my double price at the local aquarium and museum but I was outrageously declined.🤨 They claimed there was no charge. When insisting on my right to pay double x nothing, the police were called . Victimized as farang again 😫

It's a pitched civil war!

Thais who pay a lower price vs an army of 'cheap charlie' tourists and frugal but wealthy Ex-Pats who are fighting "on principle" against double pricing! ;-)

No one is safe from being subjected to brutal and inhumane double pricing!!!

The Hanoi Hilton and BangKwang prison are a pleasure compared to the endemic humiliation of double pricing!

When will the horrors end?

They aren't "so called expats"

They are expats by definition

Expats isn't determined by your visa status or work status

And actually, if anything, an expat is temporary and not permanent

I'm in agreement with you Mark, an expat is somebody who leaves their country of origin and settles abroad for an extended period of timeoften temporary or permanently.
However in Thailand unless you attain Thai nationality, or permanent residency status, you are only granted temporary permission of stay for 1 year at a time.

I recall being in Phnom Penh in 2014 just after MH 370 disappeared, and talking with a Malay who was running a phone shop near the Russian Market. He talked about how when the Btits were running Malaysia, it was so much better run.

I asked him if he was sorry that the Brits were no longer in charge.  He replied "Not at all. Anyone with any pride would be annoyed at a complete stranger coming to your home and telling you how you are doing everything wrong, even if the stranger were right".

And that’s human nature in a nutshell…..uncivilized people at least would all rather be governed by a genocidal thieving loon ….. from their own tribe …than a wise equitable, law -enforcing, peaceful outsider.

I wished we has lost the 2nd WW and were now being controlled by the Germans.🙄

This is serious!! Amnesty International is about to release a report on the horrific conditions of double pricing afflicting Ex-Pats in Thailand!

This is one of the world "hidden Holocausts".

So when I go to Thailand next I will have to spend all of my times wondering if I am an expat or a tourist.

I stayed there for a year from August 2018 to August 2019, was I an expat then?

Sometimes when I go there I have no idea how long I am going to stay, for instance I went in January 2020 for three months but ended up staying seven months, sometimes I plan fir six months but only stay one.

So do I have to wait a certain amount of time when I am there before I can earn the title of expat or can I be one from day one?

If I stay a year and then go back to England, when I get back will I be a trainee expat again?

How long does it take to be awarded the qualification?

Is there a ceremony?

It is quite a difficult to work out but it is terrible important because if anyone challenges me over there and I do not like their argument I can then superciliously say, "But I live here". 🤣

I know, next time anyone says that to me I will say, "But I am a trainee liver-here".🤗

A lot of the very wise and clever expats sometimes tell me there is a system in Thailand where they have two menus, one for locals with a Thai price and a more expensive one for expats and other farangs.

I test this now and then by sending in a Thai first to get the table and menus and a few months later I go in first, it is always the same menu on all occasions.

Also the prices are written on the window sometimes, do they have spies one hundred meters from the shop and when they see a farang coming they rub out the Thai prices and increase them?

What do Madconalds do, their prices are on display on the wall behind the counter, does the wall spin to show its other side with a more expensive menu when a farang goes into the restaurant.🤣

They are extended visitors then, they only have the same status and rights as a tourist has.

No it's true!

There are double prices every where!

And its all part of a secret racist genocide against farang!!!

I think the timeline is that over 30 or 40 years the expats will be so used to being overcharged they will have no will to fight!! Genocide by "being nibbled to death by goldfish"!

กบในกะลา - frog in a shell - the expats are in a coconut shell of double prices!!!

A serious difference in tourists and expats is that tourists are usually not price sensitive, while expats are

A tourist will overpay as part of a budget for the trip they planned to spend. The expat will want to save money and maximize value

So expats will crow about double pricing, even if it's THB80 to see a waterfall, while a tourist says "that's a fraction of the price in my country" and happily pays.

It does not stop there, when they go to the cinema each seat has a farang detector, before they sit, the seat automatically decreases its width so when they sit it is uncomfortable.

So the next time they go they know they can not fit into the 'Thai sized seats", as so will pay for a sofa seat meant for two at three times the price, that will eat away at them..

On Thai Airways, aircraft seats will do the same so next time they will have to fly business class, the farang human race will expire with a few years.

Or suffocate in piles of their own fat flesh from eating over priced pad Thai!!

It's genius! The racist plot to destroy farang ALSO makes some extra cash. It's as if the farang are paying for their own destruction!

It's like Lenin said "We will sell them the rope which they will use to hang themselves... At double the price!!!!"

I think a lot of them (not all) crow because they are annoyed in general but do not want to admit it.

Imagine going there, buying a house, a car, paying money to the wives family for years as they have been fooled into thinking that is normal.

They wake up one day and realise they do not own the house or car and they are not as well off as when they first arrived and are now stuck under the thumb of their wives.

It must be frustrating and thus moan at an 80 baht ticket.

Not concerned, I am laughing about it really, plus I am skiving off work again, instead of writing software code I am messing about replying to these comments. Just a lazy day.

I am glad I am not an expat though as I might have lost a house, a car and been paying for non-existent buffaloes and imaginary sick wives parents for decades.

Yes that member of the Beatles was a particular clever bloke, he used to sing about peace and poverty and then hang about in bed all day on a sort of socialist strike with his Japanese wife counting all his money in a penthouse in New York.🤣
