Not to be too semantic, but the accolades being heaped on the rodent preclude it being described as "unsung".

"...who(sic. Should read 'which') has saved hundreds of lives..."

"A hero is laid to rest."

"...part of a HeroRAT program..."

"...a most successful HeroRAT..."

"...brave creature was formally awarded the PDSA Gold Medal in September 2020, the highest honour for courage an animal can get."

 

It (not, 'he') was a trained rat. Its maze was a minefield. It did its job well because...

it loved bananas.
