Why deny one potential cause instead of explaining the actual cause?

Humans are curious and imaginative creatures; if curiosity is not satisfied, imagination steps up (and before long paranoia contributes its opinions):

Has there been a drought (shortage of hay etc.)? Is there a lack of cheap laborers? More demand for export? Bankruptcies in the supply chain? Signs of a recession ahead? (and there are many minds out there that can come up with a much longer and more creative list)

It has always puzzled me how dismissive the UK is of Thailand as a potential trading ally.....and it looks as if there has been a missed opportunity here.
