News Forum - US Omicron cases skyrocket, but Fauci says South Africa situation offers hope

Recommended Posts

The top pandemic expert in the US, Dr Anthony Fauci, says that while the current surge in Omicron cases is unprecedented, recent developments in South Africa offer hope. He says the peak for the US may be just weeks away, but acknowledges that what’s happening now is, “almost a vertical increase”. “We are definitely in the middle of a very severe surge and uptick in cases.” The highly-contagious Omicron variant is spreading rapidly around the world, with the US reporting over 440,000 new infections on Friday. According to an AFP report, this is nearly 200,000 more than during a February […]

Hopefully they’ll do that here in Thailand, but it’s anyone’s guess what the “expert” Anutin will do. The kids need to be back in school. They don’t have motivation or guidance at home with video sessions. Too many distractions

Whereabouts are you in Thailand?

Apart from now during the New Year school break all the schools locally have been open for a while and I thought that was the case across Thailand.

What's happening in South Africa is a bit of a window into the future. In my country we're topping the pops with Omicron. 33,000 in a day. But it could prove to be the last gasp of Covid. I'm not saying let's hold a giant Omicron party just yet. But these a hopeful signs.

Only select few were open that met the criteria placed by Education Department. My school was just allowed to open fully mid December. Us being first school in Khon Kaen District to do so.

Not too keen on this Fauci guy after he perjured himself in front of the senate, plus torturing those beagles to death for no real apparent reason(temptation to insert images of the dogs in agony being eaten alive by maggots while restrained overridden by common decency), not the sort of guy I would find credible whatsoever.

He's a China Boy.....follow the money

Just received news my daughter's school is back doing online classes effective tomorrow until the 14/1 at this stage. Her school has been open for a while, except when a teacher caught Covid-19 and they all had to isolate as close contacts!

Order came from the Provincial Disease Control. Apparently because of a sudden escalation in case count in the Province.

Yes and as I said previously, the kids need to be in school to learn. Maybe the issue is Provincial Disease Control only being one of the many with fingers in this Covid pie. I wonder if they even realize what is going on with each other and instead go on with their own plans which affect so many people and contribute to regression.
I just wish they could get it together with a clear path and move foreword.

I think they are just the instrument of transmission so to speak. It was either the Governor who made the decision or the National Government which has been talking about it for a few days.

To me face to face is certainly the best learning experience....saves nearly blowing up the house with the Chemistry experiments too!😁

If you have some physical problem, do you really think this guy would be able to tell you what's wrong with you?

What a silly question.

If I had red eyes, skin rash and hiccups, and was unhappily hemorrhaging away, accidently meeting Fauci on his yearly one day off surely would result in getting me checked out for Ebola. But having some random problem and then going to a specialist in some arbitrary field is like going to a gynecologist when having phantom pain in your third ball.

I thought he was the smartest, most talented doctor in the world. At least that's what the tv makes us believe🤪

On his yearly one day off...

You make it sound as if he's 24/7 in a laboratory trying to find a cure for Covid....

All he does is trying to stop others from finding cures and only want people to get vaccinated. While there are many other ways which work too.

All I think is.... What a silly answer

Then you might be very confused as he's been caught multiple times flip flopping on for example whether to wear a mask or not.

Well done circumventing my logic without providing arguments! I'm also impressed by your gullibility (I do believe you wrote your 1st paragraph, but I'm less sure whether or not you read it) and your imagination demonstrated overall. My sincere compliments.

In reality, medical professionals are the best source of advice we have. They have studied for longer than most professionals. So considering they have the knowledge and experience, I guess I'm going to follow their advice. The alternative.... the internet and Dr Google.....conspiracy theories, antivaxers, antimaskers.... I'd prefer to rely on empirical science.....

Thanks - I'd never have thought the schools around here were 'select' 😆!

Thanks, too - it's obviously a lot more patchy than I thought and we've been lucky with all the local schools open and even the senior schools some go to 20 or so 30 kms away.

Just goes to show how different even neighbouring provinces are at the moment.

I'm only saying, they make him look like he's never wrong on anything. He's an 'expert' and is called a doctor. Then the least you could expect is that he has at least some knowledge about your health issues.

Yeah,I thought someone would blame China eventually. Crocked logic.

Don’t you worry, it is by now well established that you are clearly a CCP sympathizer. Heck, you could be a CCP party member. Thanks for your valuable comment!
