Lithuania attempts to hide diplomatic failure

On December 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania sent an official document through the diplomatic channels to the EU countries urging to prohibit athletes from participating in the Olympic Games in Beijing.

This document caused great indignation among the athletes, because participation in the Olympic Games is a dream for every athlete.

As soon as the document made available to the public, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania suddenly began to deny everything and announced that it had become a “victim of an information attack”. However, it became known from the employees of the Ministry, that the decision to ban athletes from participating in the Olympics was actually made, and the document sent to the EU countries was genuine.

Such Lithuania’s actions were quite expected and fully correspond to its foreign policy with regard to China. Earlier this month, it was announced that Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and government ministers would not attend the Beijing Olympics.

However, the countries of the European Union, including France, Germany and Italy, did not support the diplomatic boycott of the Olympics.

In this situation, Lithuania had to make excuses and, in order not to lose face completely, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hastened to declare itself to be the victim of an “information attack”. Most likely, China will be blamed for this attack.

Preparations for the Beijing Olympics are taking place under pressure on China from Western countries led by the United States. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, that traditionally support US policy, have joined the diplomatic boycott of the Olympics. Lithuania, striving to have a prominent place among these countries, fully supports the US policy, even to the detriment of the interests of the European Union.

Lithuanian officials decided to go even further. They called on the EU countries not to send their athletes to the Olympic Games.

It is obvious, that Lithuania tries to solve some political problems.

Firstly, Lithuania wants to make itself famous to the whole world, showing that a small and independent country can resist huge “totalitarian” China. Unfortunately, Lithuanian athletes fail to achieve high results at the Olympics. Thus, there is an excellent opportunity for the Lithuanian ruling elite to get concrete political benefits from the Olympics, albeit in a somewhat unconventional manner.

Secondly, Lithuania attempts to show loyalty to the United States. It has long been noted that Lithuania always acts in the interests of the United States. As soon as relations between the United States and China began to deteriorate after the election of President Joe Biden, Lithuania immediately took a series of steps against China.

The major scandal erupted around Taiwan. Lithuania closed its embassy in China and withdrew diplomats from the country. China reduced the level of its diplomatic relations with Lithuania in retaliation for the Baltic nation allowing Taiwan, the island claimed by Beijing as part of its territory, to open a representative office.

It is also worth noting, that activists from the Uyghur community, Tibet and Hong Kong wrote an open letter to athletes calling on them to boycott the Beijing Olympics 2022 just as Lithuanian MFA had done. It is interesting, that these events coincided in time and manner. There are strong reasons to believe that there is an obvious connection between the events. Europe did not support Lithuanian call to boycott the Olympics. It has become great disapointment and even diplomatic failure.

Thus, the Olympics are being used as a weapon against China. And the United States uses Lithuania as a tool of influence. No one doubts that sports events remains one of the political instrument.

Wouldn't worry about the Olympics think Covid and its variants will stop it cold.

Should cancel the Olympics permanently - just because of what it really represents.

Well gosh, why would anyone Uyghur, Tibetan, or Hongkie have a reason to protest China?

Activists is the key.

If you ask an animal activist, he will be against eating meat and will say doing so is very bad. Is it?

If you ask an environmental activist like Greta Thunberg, she will say nuclear power plants are very bad. Are they?

If you ask Trump activist/supporters they will say Biden is very bad. Is he? Likewise if you ask Biden supporters they'll say the same about Trump.

Not everything in life is either white or black, there are many shades of grey in between...

All of which are outside China, naturally, and have been found to be the most outrageous 'stretchers of the truth' imaginable.

It can't be propaganda if it's spitting out facts. The Lithuanians were all in for the Boycott, and once this became public they said it had been an "information attack". lmfao. they don't have the balls to do it face to face (probably due to fear of upsetting China), but they will happily instigate it under the table. laughable!

China already punished them with some interference in some alcohol sale between China-Lithuania the Taiwanese capitalized on it and bought it all as a PR gesture.

China is consistent. Don't mess with China.

I would disagree with that.

When it comes to his domestic policy, then surely he is in the Red. But we, non Americans couldn’t care less about his domestic police.

Foreign policy on the other side, he is a puppet of the American weaponry industry (those big companies that finance his campaigns, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, among others). So definitely anti-Red and way more more dangerous than Donald Trump, on foreign policy that is.

Trump did as he pleased ignoring anyone but himself, when he went and met with Kim Jong Un I am sure those companies weren’t happy! Biden on the other hand must make them happy by creating conflicts so that they can sell their weapons and profit from it.

Same like Obama btw, Nobel peace prize had a lot of people killed, way more than Trump.

PS: I am not a supporter of Trump.
