According to a Reuters report, the city has become the country’s latest hotspot in the pandemic. Its 13 million residents are now entering day 5 of lockdown, with 155 new cases of community transmission. According to Worldometers there were 206 cases recorded yesterday (26-12) in China. On a population of 1.4 billion, that amounts to 1 case per 6.7 million people.  To put this in perspective > the total population of Norway  is 5.4 million and Denmark is 5.8 million.

Yeah but then the headline is "China reports highest-daily rise in new Covid-19 infections since pandemic began". It means nothing else but a "news" (that is not one) being only sensationalism. It has been already 2 years of this mad fear propaganda all over the world mainsteam media with no sign of slowing down. I wonder when (if?) covid finally disapears what these same media will be talking about...??

3x less cases than in Thailand yesterday. What's the news?

China has been managing the message since the start... seemingly under reporting cases and deaths. What's real or not real is up to your imagination. It does seem newsworthy that they are coming out with this somewhat dire news now, and locking down their people again. Always makes we wonder what they know (seeing as this virus originates from there) 🤷

China is one of the very few countries that still have a harsh zero-Covid instead of a "flatten the curve" approach. This is a new record that raises the probability that containment fails, which would inevitably lead to a change of strategy. That makes it at least somewhat newsworthy (although personally I'm fairly indifferent as to the outcome). Or perhaps I'm over-analyzing, in which case the article is just an ordinary piece of useless information.

Why would anyone believe any statistic coming out of the PRC?  They manufacture data on a daily basis as part of their propaganda machine

... and why would Reuters then take it over?

Not to make light of this, but it seems like anything Covid related is so over the top, these days. There are more than likely more people dying of heartburn, backaches, or super rare diseases, than Covid right now in China. Hello. Give it a rest. OK?

162 cases amongst 1.4 bn. America on the other hand.......

Which is never reported or covered - that would make their ever-present comparisons look rather ridiculous.

Add: UK and Germany to this list, as well.

485 cold symptoms or actual sick people? A more useful number would be the number of symptomatic persons requiring hospital admission. The second useful number would be the amount of persons admitted to intensive care, and the third and final number, no pun intended, would be how many deaths. "Cases" and "infections" and "symptomatic" without the breakdown of the aforementioned classifications really only tells us that there is no real emergency here. Again, are we talking about a majority of those 485 people with sore throats and the sniffles only?
