Don’t believe everything you hear… even if the voice telling it to you is the computerized one of your GPS system. A truck driver learned that lesson the hard way today after blindly following his GPS resulted in his truck being firmly wedged under the overpass of a highway U-turn in Nonthaburi. This sort of thing seems to be happening more and more frequently.

Thought somebody would have put up those overhead dangling things that give truck drivers a warning about low bridges ages ago.

If you read the  "full " story you will note that such a sign does exist. Problem is that a driver who is  concentrating on avoiding  other  users of the road while relying on gps instructions is less likely to  notice the static and probably well faded  sign saying "Duck!" and so will be  deemed to be entirely at fault ( which technically he is) . That's how the "system" can comb it's hair and make you look ugly !

3 meters? I have a basket ball player relative  who is 2.4 meters! He aint  no  truck!

I'm on about the metal bits of pipe that hang above the road that wack the truck Prior to getting to the bridge, nobody reads signs nowadays,they are waste of space.

While I have no knowledge of using GPS to navigate, I would imagine there might be a company producing a GPS option allowing to plan a route avoiding certain obstacles, like height restrictions?

his responsibility to judge and assess hazards ahead .. if there was any doubt the height of the truck exceeded the clearance of the underpass the donut should've stopped rather than listen to a synthesised micro chip telling him to proceed ..
