The Phuket News is reporting that plans to allow the sale of alcohol throughout the night during New Year’s Eve on the southern island have been scrapped. Governor Narong Woonciew had recently issued an order confirming that the sale of alcohol would be extended from 11pm on December 31 until 6am on January 1. However, a notice posted last night by the Phuket Info Centre says this has now been cancelled. Restaurants on Phuket with the correct licences are currently allowed to sell alcohol until 11pm. I would ALMOST go to Phuket just to watch this enforced. What happened to the government message of "don't panic". Now changed to.....hmmm "wait for further announcement". Let us panic for you!

But hey - please come to a massive crowded event and watch an elderly opera singer for New Years Eve instead.

Then you can go to the bars restaurants serving popcorn, just only the ones owned by the cops or those that paid enough.

At last a sensible decision , or at least a part decision as the way Omicron is about to take off here a full lockdown should allready have been implemented .

Im amazed they are still allowing travellers in from such highly infected Countries like the uk now , it makes no sense at all

Every year down on Nai Harn beach it's usually packed and this year have a concert with live bands I dont want to pi$$ on anyone's bonfire but it should be canceled, The area around Rawai is very busy so I would imagine many people will make their way to the beach, 

It seems like it's a 2 or 3 day event

All countries are likely to be highly infected like us in the UK, the difference is we are testing on a massive scale and so know what is going on, over 80% of people over the age of 12 are double vaxed and around 50% have had three vaccines so the overall impact re severe illness is in check.

Thailand as usual has its head in the sand, it could not organise a piss up in a brewery re vaccination rollout.

My plan to visit Thailand in September this year for six months is still on hold.

Yet, it's already been scientifically proven that the new Omicron isn't that dangerous/deadly.

What is dangerous, though, is the proposed and managed practice of inventing angst and panic.

You do realize that many still need to be hostlpitalized and that puts immense stress on the hospitals and it then delays other type of medical care, right?

 

You can't just comment on "facts" about Omicron without acknowledging that, because it is an important part of the equation

I can understand some hysteria over Omicron, because it is the unknown. my country had the same reaction a few weeks ago. It would be easy to be wrapped up in that hysteria. In reality, Omicron is definately more contagious than Delta. case numbers are doubling every two to three days. but hospitalisations are only higher out of an abundance of caution. Time will tell......
