South Africa has always had an excellent medical capability, witness the first heart transplant and other surgical firsts. So it is very good to see a nascent vaccine research, development and production project is well under way. So what about Thailand, the hub of hubs and home of many self-styled vaccine experts? Well it does have a tiny bottling plant and a couple of far off vaccines under development but the government seems strangely indifferent to ensuring that this country breaks away from vaccine colonising by the likes of the US & the UK. Maybe the brown envelopes from established pharma conglomerates are more attractive!
