Number 3 is Laos and Cambodia, Khamin is widely spoken in areas of Surin and Buri Ram

I thought about that too Sarisin. Three provinces out of 20 with a significant Khmer-speaking minority, with Buri Ram contingent predominantly recent arrivals.

In total, 4% Khmer speakers for the entire Isaan region.

5/5 !! (insert bells, whoops and whistles)

Despite my 1 week visit to Ubon 5 years ago, for the candle festival, i managed top score in a quiz that put the peas in peasy and the lemon in squeezy !!

Shall have to update my CV from “under achiever “ to “ shows promise “ 😯

It will end up being zero Lao and Khamin, not taught in schools and discouraged. The new generation seem less fluent in either, fluent in smart phones though 🙄

Did have some good cafes and karaokes and that soi next to the Tong Tarin Hotel!

Now that is one old dusty charmer. I actually stayed there when I was in Surin. I do recall there being one long street of venues, some of which with live music. Surprised at how much was going on for a town of that size.

Big Disco, beer garden in front of the hotel, lots of small bars, restaurants, and some st rooms as well. All within easy walking distance from the TT Hotel. The TT is a great place to park the vehicle, never any hassles.

Huge parking lot out front. When I stayed there, a wedding reception was even held there. Big marquee, stage, sound system, fake carpet, the whole shebang. All set up and dismantled within 24 hours.

Five....as I've lived in Isaan for 7 years, I'd flipping well hope so.

Can I get my beer now please, BH....?

You're in a similar boat to me, @Faraday, I having landed here in Isan in 2012 and also, hardly surprisingly, scoring 5 in this quiz . . . my first 5 if memory serves 😏!
